🎨 Literature, music, and art came together in Ms. Watson’s 8th grade Advanced ELA class!
Inspired by Gary Paulsen’s writing and popular music from the Vietnam era, students created watercolor paintings while exploring a story’s theme and connecting it to today’s world. Using Kentucky writing standards, they strengthened their analysis and showed their creativity as innovative thinkers.
We love seeing our BCMS students make meaningful connections and bring their learning to life! 💛
There’s so much to be proud of at BCMS, and today’s assembly gave us a chance to celebrate some of the wonderful things happening in our school! ❤️💛
🎶 Our choir opened the assembly with the National Anthem, marking their first performance! We’re proud of these students for sharing their voices and growing as effective communicators.
👏 Congratulations to our Students of the Month! Through their effort, kindness, and leadership, these students make our school a better place. By supporting classmates and embracing opportunities to grow as lifelong learners, they give us plenty to celebrate!
🏆 Our 6th grade earned the Overall Monthly GPA Academic Excellence Award! Way to go, sixth graders!
We also celebrated Bill Kissick, our student-selected Educator of the Month! Students shared how his humor, encouragement, and willingness to break down challenging math problems make learning fun and help them feel successful.

Bourbon County Middle School celebrated NATIONAL GEAR UP WEEK Sept. 12-25, 2026. The theme was “Lighting the Way to Our Future”. Each day featured an activity to support their future plans and goals. Students wore shirts to represent their favorite college, dressed for their future profession, completed a virtual college, and 8th grade students received an introductory presentation on the KEES program. The GEAR UP Team would like to express their appreciation to BCMS Staff and students for their participation.

🌾 Learning in Action at BCMS! 🧪
Mrs. Thompson’s Ag class has been learning about disease transfer and exploring how diseases can spread. Students worked together to analyze different situations, think through how transmission occurs, and effectively communicate their ideas and observations with their classmates.
We love seeing our students step into their learning—asking questions, making connections, sharing their thinking, and growing as innovative thinkers and effective communicators. These are the skills that help our Colonels learn with purpose and make an impact beyond the classroom! ❤️💛
Our Kentucky Agriculture Fact Finders were on the hunt! 🌾 Students searched BCMS for hidden facts about Kentucky agriculture, showing what it means to be a Lifelong Learner: staying curious and sharing what you discover.

Upcoming Immunization Clinics
Bourbon County Schools, in partnership with the Bourbon County Health Department- will be holding upcoming vaccine and immunization clinics for students.
We are currently reviewing students’ cumulative health records. If your child is not up to date on required immunizations, you will be notified. Families will have through the date of the final clinic listed on this flyer to provide an updated Kentucky Immunization Certificate.

Once your child receives the needed immunizations, please send an updated immunization certificate to the school.
